I'm currently buying components for my first build, and realized that I haven't even thought about cables.

1. Will I need to buy any SATA cables?

2. I plan to buy an OEM DVD drive, and I believe those don't come with a cable. Is that correct?

3. Will a HDD come with a cable? Probably going with a WD 500GB Caviar Black.

4. If I need to buy SATA cables, what length is best for use in a ATX mid tower for the DVD drive and HHD?

Thanks for the help.

How many SATA devices are you hooking up?

My Asrock Extreme 4 came with 2 SATA cables. I think most mobos do. You could check the website of the board you are buying and see.

I bought an OEM DVD Drive and it came with a SATA cable. Not sure if they all do though.

Thanks for the tip. It didn't occur to me that the MOBO would come with cables. I'll probably be getting the Asrock Z77 Pro4, unless I find some great deal on something else. I just checked their site, and it does come with 2 cables. I'm only going to be hooking up two SATA devices for now, so that works out.

Is there a difference in SATA cables for SATA 6GB/s vs. 3GB/s? Just curious for future reference if I get another hard drive or SSD.
