Hi guys , since the community is so helpful i decided i would ask for some help regarding building a new pc for a beginner.
I have been looking into parts and have decided on almost all of them. I need some feedback regarding the pricing and the compatibility of the parts.

Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-890GPA Motherboard

Processor
Manufacturer AMD
CPU Type Desktop
Processor Interface Socket AM3
Processor Class Phenom II X4
Processor Speed X4 965 / 3.40GHz Cores Quad
L2 Cache 2MB
L3 Cache 6MB
Bus Speed 2000MHz (4000 MT/s)
Fan Included

The Processor and the Motherboard together cost me $130.

PSU
OKIA 550w power supply
three sata power connectors to go with it, and a six pin PCI-e connector. ($20 around 2 years old)
OR
Cooler Master Extreme Power 500W Power Supply($30)
Part #: RP-500-PCAR
Almost brand new power supply!
Large 120mm Fan
Motherboard 20+4 Pin x 1
CPU 4 Pin x 1
PCI-E 6 Pin x 1
Peripheral 4 Pin x 6
SATA x 3
Floppy 4 Pin x 2

Graphic Card
XFX Radeon HD 6850 Fansink 775MHZ 1GB 4.0GHZ GDDR5 2XDVI Display(around $70ish)
OR
GeForce GTX 550 Ti($75)
What would you suggest from these both cards and which would be compatible with the PSU.

RAM
6GB G Skill RAM (3x2GB sticks) $20

Hard Drive($40)
Western Digital
Size: 500GB
RPM: 7200
Model: WD5000AAKS-00YGA0
Date: December 2007

The total comes to around $300.(+ or - $15)
All products listed are used. All prices are in Canadian Dollar.
I would like some thoughts regarding this. What should i check for in the items before i purchase them so that they are not defected etc.
Thank you very much for helping me and taking time out for this thread.

Guessing that this is low cost budget build using used parts.

PSU
Neither!, but of the 2 the Cooler Master Extreme Power 500W Power Supply is the best
Suggest- Antec, Seasonic, Corsair, OCZ, XFX,

GPU
XFX Radeon HD 6850
Much faster than a 550ti

RAM
6GB G Skill RAM (3x2GB sticks) $20
you need a dual channel kit, not triple channel. I guess you could just use 2 of the 3 and be ok

the only way to really check them is to see them running in a system

I wouldn't touch that PSU with a 10 foot pole but everything else on that build looks pretty decent. Not bad for $300.

But doesnt the motherboard support memory upto 16GB, so if i get 3 sticks cant i use them since there are 4×240pin
memory slots. THanks.

you can just use 2 for 4GB for the dual channel memory. it would be faster than 6gb without dual channel.

I almost forgot. What case should i be looking for , are there any for around $35 or less and what type. I would want a color/transparent flashy one but that will exceed the budget lol. Thanks.

It isn't the flashiest thing, but it is in your price range and seems solid.

I would look locally for one you like. as shipping charges in Canada are thru the roof. get one with a 120mm rear fan, and a maybe slot for a front fan and you should be ok.
