Hello, my name is Bill. I am having issues with my old Area-51 desktop. The system locks up and the screen goes all different colors and shakes. I am thinking it is a video card. Here are my system specifics:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz
RAM: 2.00 GB
Graphics: NVIDA GeForce 9800 GX2
Gaming Graphics: 1279 MB Total available graphics memory
HDD: 120GB Free (225GB Total)

I want to upgrade this system and would love suggestions for that also.

Thanks for your time!!

Bill

what is your motherboard and Power supply? are you sure your motherboard supports SLI? and does your PSU can handle the 2x 9800 videocards?

Or the card is actually burned out. Is the fan working? Is the fan full of dust?

It sounds like either your video card or your power supply is on the way out it's kinda a pain to diagnose those would be the first place I would start. As for upgrades on the system it's been awhile since I worked with one but the Q9450 was a strong overclocker my upgrade's after the problem is sorted would be without knowing the specifics of your budget a W7 64bit key, increase to at least 4Gb of ram and a Ssd.
