Wondering what you guys think would be the best pc for my budget.... currently i'm eyeing these 3 pcs while my budget is $500...i'm hoping for 50+ fps on 1280x1024 settings and still be able to play recent/upcoming pc games at a decent clip (witcher 2, max payne 3 etc)

First PC

I was going to buy this PC, then upgrade the video card to a GTX460 or a high-end radeon (6 series).

Computer 2

priced @ 350 I don't know good that CPU is.... but I believe the GPU is at somewhat decent given what I seen on reviews about it...

Computer 3

Priced @ 450, think the video card is better but again, not sure about CPU

Computer 4

priced at 350,I know its not a quad core (would say quad no?) but it has the better PSU out of the bunch....any ideas on what i should go for?

To me the 2nd pc (AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE) looks about the best. But you will have to upgrade the graphics card as you planned. The 8800 series were great cards, for their time, but that was a few years ago. They barely make entry level these days.

Is the 955BE better then the first one CPU? only reason I ask is cause the first has a better clock speed then the one you offered... unless there is something else i'm missing about the 2 PCs...

PC 1 - Athlon is not as good as Phenom. It's a cheapo Mobo and the general presentation in the image would make me stay away it looks a mess. If he can't even take a nice photo i bet he has cut corners all over. Cowboy/muppet advert/seller alarms would ring in my head

PC 2 - The 2nd is not a Phenom II 955 BE its a way older Phenom CPU and DDR2 RAM.... I would take PC 1 over this. You get a fancy (old) case and some VERY dated parts. Definitely would avoid.

PC 3 - Dated to hell and back same as above but substitute Phenom with ancient intel.

PC 4 - Again same as above.

All in all if those are your ONLY options I think I would take PC 1 as its the least dated so you could up the RAM at reasonable cost (DDR3 all the others are DDR2 which is UBER PRICEY), the CPU isn't great but will get you by and could be replaced later with an AM3 Phenom II you would need to add a graphics card to game nothing spectacular so think around $120 on top.

However for $500 you could likely build something yourself

GIGABYTE GA-M68MT-S2 AM3+ NVIDIA GeForce 7025/nForce 630a chipset Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

RAIDMAX Tornado ATX-238B Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

That totals at $467.93 adding windows 7 will push you a little over budget. Its better than anything from your list. Add a CPU cooler in the future and that CPU can overclock easy and far. The graphics card is a bit weak but will do unless the budget can be pushed.

Well only reason im looking at them is because I don't plan on making this my "Gamer PC" its the middle ground till i can finance what I really want (build my own). But he's shown me "new" pics of the PC and it's in a decent case (placeholder image he claims).

As for the PC suggested, is that with taxes in or no? cause when i tried pricing i went over all kinds (I did add win 7 and a better HDD though....)

I'm assuming that includes taxes etc (I'm UK not Canada) doesn't include delivery though. It would give you alot more mileage than the others. Possibly PC 1 would come close with an added GPU (would be similar GPU to stay in budget) but then has half the RAM.

Depends how long you want them to last. PC 1 would give you some service with an added GPU but the self build offers more for similar price and if you plan another build to replace this some of the parts can carry over.

Well thanks again WR, I will try and price your suggestions without some stuff (have a 320 gig lying around i believe) and see what other costs i can reduce from dated PC parts i have (DVD writer, possibly 450w PSU) but they're @ the parents house atm. If nothing else I may just go with PC 1 as suggested and go the upgrade route if need be.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, was away doing other things. Anyway, well spotted. The 2nd PC is not a 955 BE, my mistake. :(

I'd probably go with the first one as well.
