Build inspired by Diablo

After being brought back into computer gaming by Diablo, I want to build a decent system that will allow me to play modern games. The ole HP just isn't getting it done anymore. I'm looking to spend approximately $1000 for the computer and monitor. Suggestions are more than welcome.
