yes, the i3 2120 is much better for gaming. because games usually don't effectively use more than 2 cores, having 2 faster cores would be much better than having 4 slower cores. the 2120 and 965 perform exactly the same overall, while at the same time the 2120 has 2 less cores, making it twice as fast. the 4100 however is slower than the two slightly.

to wrap it all up, get that 2120. if you get a 1155 motherboard you are also much more future friendly.

AMD flopped big tie with bulldozer. Bulldozer is like intels pentium 4 high clock speeds and in 2012 amd have lots of cores added to make it like wow high clock speed and lots of cores for low price when reality is 2 core intel cpu's out perform amd 4 core and intel take half the electricity. intel 4 core outperform amd 8 core and take half electricity. Quite funny how dominant intel are in terms of technology. Put it this way if by 2014 amd have similar performance per watt to what intel have now it willl be a miracle. In fact if they get there by 2015 it will still be a miravle to what intel have now in 2012 or had in 2011.

look at this fx4170 takes 12.6 kilojoules while an i3 2225 takes 6.0 kilojoules to complete the same task. That is less then half the power consumption to do the same task.

Where the hell did you get kilojoules from, 1 kilojoule is 1000W.

i3 2120 is better than the FX-4100 for gaming but not nearly as good as the X4 Black.

Instead of the i3 2120 get the i3-3220, same price and performs better.

the i3 is better than most amd processors avaible on the public market, only when overclocked heavily over 5gigahertz plus might be close or equal to the i3 in gaming.

but thats doesnt include higher energy consumption+better cooling setup etc.

at stock the i3 is the way to go.
