Which one will be better for Gaming? DESPERATELY NEED HELP

So I am truly torn between two video cards within my budget.

The Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti:

or

The PowerColor Radeon HD 6790:

And yes, I am aware of the driver support with AMD, but I really don't mind it, I am currently running an AMD card, and don't really have a problem with it. I am truly torn and can't figure out which one is better for the price!

My Specs:
Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.2 GHz
ASRock H55M-LE Motherboard
AMD Radeon HD 6450 (piece of crap)
8GB RAM
Raidmax 530w PSU
320GB HDD

More about which gaming desperately help
  1. The HD 6790 is the stronger card, the only hesitation is some 6850 cards have been on sale near that price.

You should check benchmarks on your favorite games. Some games may favor either specifically.
Use Toms "Best GPUs March 2012" and benchmark archive.
  2. Your aware of driver support with AMD? HUH?

You failed to mention the most important factor.........your monitors resolution......

You get what you pay for. You paid for a 6450, you got junk. You pay for a 6790/550ti, you get junk.

If your running 1080p, you'll be disappointed with anything less than a 6870.
  3. They are both in the same tier on the hierarchy chart which means nearly
    The same performance. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

All things equal I would probably go with Nvidia due to better drivers and driver support.

However I would also suggest saving a little more money and try to get something a few more tiers up.
  4. the radeon only has 46% 5-egg reviews. even counting the 4-egg reviews, it only comes to 66%. i wouldn't touch that card. of course the gtx 550 only has 9 reviews total so far, which isn't much to go on.

conclusion: if it were me, i would save up more money and get a higher-end gtx.

My resolution is only 1440x900... so yeah
  6. Well with a tiny monitor like that, a 550ti should be find, but what's the point of playing BF3 with a fast computer on a tiny monitor?
