Updgrading My GPU

I currently have a 8600GT and know its time for an upgrade. However my question is will A new gpu increase performance drastically on my motherboard or will it be a waste of money? I have a p5k se:

If it is worth upgrading with my current motherboard I am looking at either the 560ti/570/580 or 660/670 depending on prices. Or maybe an AMD card but I do not know much about them any help is much appreciated.

It all depends on what CPU you have installed. With a good CPU the 560Ti would be a massive upgrade.

I have a q6600 at 3.0 but Im not sure if a new GPU will be able to benefit from the older PCI slots on the motherboard.

It will work fine just as long that you stay away from ver 2.1 cards like the new AMD ones. GTX560Ti would be great if your PSU can handle it.
