I have a family plan with 3 lines. At first one of these lines would
show up with the tel# but name "unavailable" on a landline caller ID.
The second showed both name and #. After I added a third line all three
now show the same name on caller ID.

When I first called 611 to ask about this I was told that I could not
change the name that shows up but I could have the name part suppressed
and show just the number (which is preferable to my husband's cell#
showing up with my name). Supposedly the Cingular CS rep "took care" of
this for my second line but nothing changed until the third line was
added, which apparently caused the first line to start displaying the name.

Is it true that all 3 lines can only show the master account name? And
if so, what exactly do I ask Cingular to do to suppress the name and
show only the phone#'s on landline caller ID?

I called once about a similar problem. When I call from my line (the
main # for the family plan) my name is displayed. But the other 2 lines
display Wireless Caller. I was told that you cannot have a different
name show for each line but that they could set all lines to show my
name. It was supposedly changed to show my name on all but the change
never took effect and I haven't bothered to call on it again.

It doesn't make sense to me why they can't have each line show the
associated name. The bill separates each line by number and name so the
info is available in the system.

I have 3 lines on a family plan and called CS with the same question. I
must have good luck as opposed to others on this newsgroup. CS is always
courteous and helps me with the problem that I pose, even when it is
something that I did wrong. I guess it's the way you originally approach the
situation with CS.

Back to the main point of the question, have the CS put in a trouble
ticket to tech support requesting the names that you want appear as you
need. The only problem with that is that each name you want to add must
become an authorized person on the account. The others on my account can
change some features but never cancel my account. Having them as a
authorized person on the account also allows them to obtain PUK codes if
they ever lock up their phone (611 is allowed on a locked phone).
