I3 2130 vs i3 3220

So I am building a budget rig ($700 budget... 600 after WIN7) for gaming.
The i3 2130 sandy and i3 3220 ivy are the same exact price.
I am going to be getting a z77 MOBO regardless of which processor I get.
Does sandy support pci-e 3.0? Dual Channel RAM?
Which one should I choose????

And no I am not going to switch to AMD. Opinions are opinions but bench marks don't lie :kaola:

nope...sandy doesn't support pci-e 2.0, plus the IB chip has a TDP 10W less than SB.
    Both support dual channel RAM.

So IB 3220 is the way to go if they both priced the same :)
  2. Any particular reason for getting a z77 board? The only significant feature they have is unlocking multipliers on K-chips. Since you are buying a non-overclockable chip, you could shave ~$30 off by stepping down to a h77-based board.

As $hawn said, if both CPUs are priced the same, pick the IB since it uses less power and has ~7% better performance than SB.

The 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i3-2130 doesn't support PCI-E 3.0 but it does support dual channel memory. For me I would go witht he Intel Core i3-3220 due to the best IGP, PCI-E 3.0, the improvemnts to the design makes the Intel Core i3-3220 run around 6% faster at the same speed. http://ark.intel.com/compare/53428,65693
