Worthwile upgrade?

I have an Intel P4 2.4ghz sitting here (from a friend who fried his mobo) and I was wondering if it was a worthwile upgrade on my system with a Celeron 2.5ghz. Will this give me any noticeable performance boost? I have already checked the mobo with cpu-z to see if it had a chipset that supported this P4 and it does.

Yes it will give you a boost.

On paper yes - 512kb versus 128kb L2 Cache is more worthwhile than a mere 100mhz of clock speed, however in reality you may only notice an increadibly small increase in frames/whatever.

Not only would the cache size be quadrupled with the P4 (Celerons also are slower due to L1/L2 associative issues), but the higher FSB/mem bandwidth is also a nice factor...

(Plus, many P4/533 Northwoods will OC quite nicely, with several hitting 800 MHz FSB and 3.0Ghz clock speeds)

The older 478 Celeron processors typically need to be OC'd to 3.2 GHz to even remotely challenge a P4/2.4..

I'd go for the P4 in a heartbeat...

it is confussing, the p4 2.4GHz is faster than the celeron 2.5GHz.
if you can keep the P4 that do it
