Hello everyone,

I am thinking to upgrade my system at home and I am having the following configuration :

CPU - AMD Phenom 9600
Motherboard - ASUS M4N82 Deluxe with nForce® 980a SLI chipset
Memory - 4x1gb corsair pc 6400
GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 460 FTW

The question is as follows :

1. Should I upgrade my CPU with a AMD Phenom II X6 1045T? I would like to mention that the system is used only for games, in special Diablo 3. Would I see an improvement?
2. Should I change my hdd with a SSD? I have to mention that my current one is a sata2 7200rpm WD.
3. Should I wait an put some money on the side to upgrade to a i7 3770 with Asus Sabertooth Z77 and Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Dual Channel Kit Rev. A?

I know that everyone will say go for the i7 upgrade, but I am interested money wise if only the upgrade of the CPU or hdd will show me an improvement.

Thank you in advance.

1)you are building a gaming PC then you should go for a 3rd gen intel ivy bridge CPU.. for gaming, i7 is not required..i7 CPUs are meant for another purposes like video editing/encoding, photoshop etc.. I'm not saying that AMD CPUs are bad.. They are good and value for money CPUs but better suited for photo/video editing applns... For you, an i5 3550($209) will be ideal.. If you plan to overclock, go for any k among the ivy bridges..

2)SSDs give awesome performance..there will be considerable difference in performance if SSD is used.. But as of now, you cant replace a conventional HDD with an SSD because of its price factor.. Its way expensive(256 GB costs $169 whereas 1tb hdd costs $70).. You can buy SSD as an additional component if u have money..

3)only 8gb of RAM(like the model you picked)is enough for decent gaming.. Yes.. it'll be really worth if you buy z77 motherboard and an i5 ivybridge processor to make your PC future proof for atleast 3-4 yrs..

PS: A good GPU like 7870/GTX 660ti will make ur pc a killer...

Thank you very much for your answer.

The difference between 3550 and 3570 is about under 10 euro. Is it worth it?
Also the motherboard should I change from Asus Sabertooth Z77 to Intel DZ77GA-70K bulk? I am thinking that Intel with Intel goes better...

performance wise the difference between i5 3550 and i5 3570 is negligable/unnoticeable..The only difference i could point out in 3570 is that it also supports 32 bit instruction set... But if you compare 3570k with 3550(considering you overclock 3570k), the whole picture will change... So if you are happy with stock speeds, save your money and get i53550.. But, if you want to overclock in future, get i5 3570k..

I dont have personal experience with intel z77 based motherboard.. But let me tell you, wherever(forums or in person) peoples have asked about a gaming rig config, I haven't seen experts recommending Intel motherboards till date.. it'll be always asus/asrock/gigabyte motherboards.. So based on that, IMO, you can go for asrock z77..
