Some questions about Phenom II x4 965 BE

I'm looking into buying a Phenom II x4 965 BE
(Such good value for performance!!)

Anyway, on the motherboards I'm looking at, it says AMD 970 Chipset, so will the 965 not work? Also below that it says that the motherboard is compatible with FX / Phenom II / Athlon II / Sempron 100, so I'm presuming that just means its compatible with the processor :)

I also heard that the processor can't use 1600mhz RAM, but then I also heard that if you get a certain type of motherboard it will be compatible?

Anyway, this is the motherboard I'm looking at, and also a link to the processor for whatever reason you may need it :)

Thanks all!

  1. As long as your AMD motherboard has at least an AM3 socket, the Phenom II X4's will work without a problem :) (I lied, just make sure it supports your CPU's TDP  )

I ran a Phenom II X4 955 with 1600Mhz RAM, it just defaults to 1333Mhz, i.e you have to manually configure it.
  2. That 970 in "amd 970 chipset" is not a proccy but chipset name.
Proccy will run on that mobo just fine.
  3. Thank you both!:)
  4. Yes a 970 chipset is supporting of that processor and you will not have any trouble.

As for RAM, the Phenom II's natively run at 1333mhz, but you can set your memory profile to 1600Mhz and it will operate at 800mhz SPD.
  5. @ OP

I love your siggy, by the way, LOL!
  6. I bought the 965 shortly after it came out ad paired it up with a 770 chipset board. It's being working without a problem ever since and I can play just about anything without needing to overclocking it.
