I5-430m in Laptop; can I upgrade to 3rd generation?

i5-430m - ASUS Laptop; can I upgrade to 3rd generation i5 or i7?

I have an ASUS K52JR laptop and want to know if I can upgrade to a 3rd generation i5 or i7? Is it the same socket? I hope so... ??

  1. No, because it isn't the same socket.

I had to check that for myself to answer in one of his other posts, but it actually is. Both the first gen and third gen mobile i5's are PGA988 (and I would imagine second gen, too).

    3210m: http://ark.intel.com/products/67355/Intel-Core-i5-3210M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz-rPGA

Edit: Unless rPGA988B is physically incompatible with PGA988, for some reason.

It doesn't matter though. Like I told him in the other thread, it won't work, regardless.
  3. Hm....but that doesn't mean the lappy would support it. Since it's a 1st gen CPU he's got in there, I doubt ASUS updated their BIOS for it after the 2nd gen came out. Also, assuming that the CPU is removable...or soldered in.

Yeah, that's basically what I told him in the other thread, but I checked the board for that model, and it does have an actual socket.

I would bet my house on it only being able to support first gen CPU's though.
