What the title says, I think the main problem is the HDD, I have a Black Caviar, great drive but so noisy. Is there anyway I can shut it up? I have seen some foam and stuff I can put it in, but want something that isn't going to make my case or HDD any hotter!

any material that you use to deaden the sound (wrap the drive with) will essentially not provide ventilation and/or dissipate the heat from the drive

the best would be to use an open-cell rubber - you can get some here - http://www.canalrubber.com/open-cell-sponge-rubber.html

Suppose your right, could say 5 rubber bands around it work? Think I am going to have a hard time getting it into the cage though with stuff around it, but I do need a good idea. I'll have to find a UK website for that but I might give it ago.

well, first off, it should be secured in the cage and into the chassis of the machine - so, essentially it does not move, period. If everything is rattling inside your chassis, then either tighten up the screws, or get a new chassis because it should not rattle

are you talking about a drive that is just free sitting? then, yes, of course some rubber bands stacked in 2 locations will provide some support
