20pin to 24 pin converter. Is it really needed?

Hi,

Just bought a new A8N5X and I now realise my psu isn't a 24pin one. Anywho I'm reading about the place that it's not or rather may not be necessary to use a convertor and that as long as it's a good psu I should be fine leaving the extra four pins free.

I have an Antec 550w psu and I reckon that should be okay so is it really okay to leave the four pins free or do I run a risk of damaging the mobo?

Some mobos have the extra 4 pins blocked off w/ a spacer or sticker (like my evga) so if yours has one it is safe to assume it is optional. I am running on 20 pin, and left the sticker on and is working 100%.

i didnot have a pin converter in my first setup. it's still running fine, i guess as long as your rig is not super powerful, a 20pin psu into 24pin mobo is "safe".
