Phenom II x 965 and HD 7970

I didn't notice any threads that might speak to this so please bear that in mind. Will a Phenom II x4 965 OC'd to 3.88Ghz bottleneck a Radeon HD 7970? I know its a weakfish CPU so I want to know if I've got get an i7 and new mobo.

Thanks.

Guru3d showed review of HD 7970 and CPU scaling, you'll lose 3-4 FPS!!!!
Your CPU won't bottleneck your GPU, but if you want to see a huge improvement in gaming performance generally upgrade to i5 2500k.
  2. Thanks. If I upgrade it'll be way beyond an i5.
  3. No need to get beyond i5 2500K if you're going to mainly gaming, it has the same performance as the i7 2600K, even it has a very comparable results among the i7 3820/3870k/3930k regarding gaming performance.

Thanks...that's good to know, especially since that's all this box would be used for. ...but 3-4 fps. Hmmm...I may hold off as long as I get 60+fps in the games I play.
  5. In GPU intensive games like BF3 you'll be fine, don't worry about it ;)
  6. As you have more performance than a 3.6ghz Bulldozer...

    Here's some insight.

You'll be fine. Little to no bottleneck.
