Neither IB nor SB can be upgraded in the future. After IB, the 1155 socket is going to be replaced by socket 1150, which is Haswell, which comes out in Q2 of 2013; so, you will have to replace the CPU and MOBO and upgrade other components when the lifespan of the PC comes to an end. However, right now, the IB build will not perform as well due to the weaker GPU. I'd go with Build 2 as it is better all-around.

I would take your first build, put the i3 2120 in it, and use that to upgrade the GPU. Also, if you don't plan to SLI/xFire, you only need a 400-500W PSU.

It would be the same thing as the second, but with a Z77 board. No need for a Z77 board if not OCing. The H77 has the same features minus the OCing of course.

The i5-3450 is a fine CPU. Upgrading to the 3550 won't give you a performance increase that is noticeable.

From i5-3450 it won't, so getting a 3550 over a 3450 isn't worth it.

Yeah that is true. My bad, been playing D3 all day so my brain is a little blah at the moment. lol.

For your PSU question, there is nothing much to say. It is your standard 500W psu. It is reliable. I would choose PC Power and Cooling Silencer MkIII 500W over tht one even if it is more expensive.
