Hello,

For a good while now, I've been trying to fix my computer from crashing. At first i thought it was the Video Card because it would crash when i was playing 3D games. I thought it could be overheating, However after i downloaded programs to monitor the temperature of the video card, it read that it was within normal range. I wondered if perhaps it was the RAM. I replaced both sticks of 2GB RAM and the problem still occured. I noticed though that the computer would start crashing during normal use. It crashed when converting sound files, browsing many websites at once, so i ruled out the Video Card. Later i noticed that the processor fan would run at maximum speed on a hot day and the computer would crash before long. I replaced the heat sink and it still did not fix the problem. However now i get a CPU fan not detected error even though it's powered and spinning. The CPU temperature does not read above normal though. It's around 40C or the lower 100's Fahrenheit.

The computer crashes by going black. The monitor doesn't say that theres no signal detected. It just goes black and enteres sleep mode. The computer is still on but there is no activity. When this happened with my old heatsink the fan would spin at max speed then slow down and then spin at max speed again in a rythmic fashion.

Since it's a shared computer there were a lot of programs that were uninstalled improperly that are still listed in programs. I've tried reducing the number of running processes also through services.msc.

Im running windows 7 on an Asus motherboard with AMD athlon II 630 quad core processor. 4GB of RAM 500 GB hard drive. Video card is 5670 HD Radeon ATI.

I believe though that the issue is the processor.

First lets take a look and see what make and model of power supply you are using. Next are you providing the correct power at the wall outlet,( clean stable power )!

Yes I re installed Windows but it didn't help.

Here are the specs on the PSU

Xtreme Gear
600W ATX Power Supply
Model: PSA2-CP600
ACinput 115v/230v 10/5A 50~60Hz
+5 & +3.3v Combined 170w

Max Output

+3.3 = 24A
15 = 30A
+12v=30A
+12v=30A
-12v=.5
5v = 3A

The computer is connected to a surge protector/power strip wich is then connected to the wall.

Thank you for your help
