I know this question is very subjective, but I'd like to get a confirmation from the community. The card our second hand, claimed never used, comes with all components and I'm inclined to believe it. Specifically, it's an HIS model. Now, I am currently running a 2500K and an XFX 5770 at 1400x900. I'm not looking to max BF3, but do enjoy good frames with some eye candy just like everyone else. Basically my question is the following: is this too good to pass up or could I do better by waiting for something else?

If it's someone local, see if they'll let you load it up and try it out OR if they'll load it in one of their computers... that is, if it has the "appearance" of new: clean, no scuffs, looks like the HSF wasn't toyed with, etc. If it checks out, I'd get it.

I actually believe, your 5770 is more than enough at that resolution...
I have one, and I played at that very resolution for a while, BF3 on High settings, and got a consistent 37-44 frames with 2x MSAA.....

Now I have a 560ti so that I could max everything on 1680 x 1050....but don't get me wrong, the 5770 is awesome...

My advice...keep saving and eventually upgrade to a 7870 later on or equivalent.

Ahh yes, at 1440x900 the 5770 is very good, but a 6870 will not be entirely wasted.

However I will have to disagree with a 7870, that card can easily max out many games at 1920x1080.

So... your telling him to save another $250 so that he can bu a Radeon HD 7870 for $360? You do know that is over 3x more than what he originally wants to spend.
