Power requirements

hello,i have quick question about my video card i have a 6870x2 and i recently bought another one and i was wondering if my power supply can handle it here is my pc spec :

Motherboard:MSI eclipse sli
Ram:24gb ram ddr3 1600
CPU:i7 970
GPU:6870x2 and im not sure i should install second one becasue iv heard if your power supply cant handle your system might damage your gpu
