Processor mother board issue

I have a hp pavilion elite m9500f and on the specs it states that it will handle an amd phenom x4 9950 agena quad core 2.6 ghz processor but when I install it , the computer gives me a message that the mother board doesn't support the processor

You probably need a BIOS update. Older BIOSs sometimes don't recognize processors they weren't designed for. Replace the newer CPU with your old CPU and flash the BIOS to the latest version. Then install the newer CPU.
