Hello,

I brought with my stupidness an alienware AW 2310 sceen for 3d game play on my alienware M14X. But the m14x has an hdmi 1.4 and a mini video output. And the alienware aw2310 screen does have an dvi dual input for 3d.

How can I get the 3d vision kit working? Do I need a hdmi to dvi dual cable. Or an mini display to dvi dual to gain the 120 hrz?

Thank you for your help

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Well, you are in a bit of a predicament. See, HDMI 1.4 does not have the bandwidth necessary to supply a 1080p picture at 120Hz. http://3dvision-blog.com/1731-hdmi-1-4a-specifications-...

As far as I know, Dual link DVI is the only one which has enough bandwidth to do 120hz at 1080p.

Sorry for the bad news :/

It does support 3D over HDMI, at 720P ;)  You could always try and return it, saying the rep gave you false information.

Over 720p? Ok Ill try tonight, I think I can live with that! :)  Just change the display settings right to 720p? Are you sure? If so You make me very happy!

Haha just let me know. It should support all normal gaming at 120Hz, just not 3D at 1080p. If you had a DP connector or DVI on your laptop, things would be simpler.

I got an mini display connection! should I try an mini display cable 2 dvi dual?

If you have Mini DisplayPort, then yeah I would try miniDP to DVI if your monitor doesn't have a DP port on it. The MiniDP port is on your laptop, right?

Displayport does in fact support 120hz. The question is whether the adapter will have the bandwidth.

What video card is in that system?

I honestly do not know. The system in which 3D is passed through doesn't always allow for you to use converters. I'd call alienware to get a straight answer and hope you get someone with knowledge.

Converters often don't pass all the information needed for 3D.

Yeah the alien ware people told me as well that the aw2310 should work on hdmi 1.4 >< What is certainly not the case! I brought many cables they all work but not to gain the 120 hz for 3d gaming. I think this will be the solution. But right now I am broke... LOL

I couple notes. HDMI 1.4 will not allow for 120hz gaming, and when trying 3D gaming at 60hz (per eye), you are limited to 720p. 1080p will not be supported.

But the aw2310 does not support 3d gaming ad 720p. I think I still have one change and that is the mini display port to dvi-d cable or even better the adapter. I read some places that it can provide 120 hz in that way. Well if not I need to sell the screen on ebay where I got it from.

That is odd, the 3D not being supported @ 720p. Are you sure about that? If you are right, that means HDMI 1.4 can only be supported at 1080p but at 24hz or 30hz, which would be rather bad for gaming.

No its the fact that the aw2310 has only an standard hdmi input. Dont get me wrong I can get by tricks 120hz on 720p. But It doesn't match the 3d stereo quality that Nvidia 3d vision kit require. The screen gives an eror that the monitor is being used by not regular 3d stereo acquirements. And no its not really 3d.
