I haven't seen this film yet but I really want to. Basically this guy eats 3 meals a day at McDonalds for a month. If they offer to supersize it he always did it.

He gained 30 pounds.

It's a grim documentary on today's fast food industry apparently.

Personally I have this to say. I stopped eating fast food years ago. The first thing that happened is that the acne I had in high school dissapeared almost overnight. I never looked back. Fast food is disgusting. I've been stuck a few times with no choice but to eat it and I get almost violently ill now. The fat content in it is so high that I can't believe it's allowed for human consumption. My body can't even take it. It goes in and comes out in one way or another very quickly.

Some of you may have read Fast Food Nation. Apparenlty the film and that book go hand in hand.

I agree. Fast food comes out just as fast as it goes in.

They put something in that food...

I first tasted FF in my late childhood and found it OK. My older brother was disgusted(as were my parents). My two younger sisters were hooked from the first bite.

I noticed this trend in lots of people: those who had no contact with it in childhood don't find it particularly delectable, while those who did eat it with relish.

There's a BK behind my school. Realistically, it's the school then 2 football fields and a track field. This poses a problem because every time I'm trying to balls out on track and have to run 6 sub 60 400's, I can't help but think about a whopper. They are evil.

I love the smell of fast food. We all do. Anything with that much fat in it smells good.

It's what it does to the body that is gross. If it were up to me I'd ban it. It's costing the world billions of dollars and quite frankly I'm finding it difficult to buy pants nowadays since nobody has a small waist anymore. Pretty soon they won't have big and tall stores they'll have small and skinny stores.

Finding a size 28, 29, or 30 in pants is tough nowadays.

Fast food in moderation is fine, I think. It's the same with cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Use a little and it doesn't cause much harm, if any, but abuse it and you end up in the hospital.

The problem is with the people that eat it one to two, or more, times a day, and people who resort to McDonald's to feed their families every night.

McDonald's... Jeez. I can't believe people eat there. The food is so terrible. I guess it just boils down to people eating there because "It's McDonald's!" and for no other reason. Bah.

See the thing is, I am for high fat foods in a certain sense. Eat a pack of bacon and some bread and cheese, and you'll be full the entire day. Meanwhile, eat something like pasta or chicken a normal sandwich and u'll be hungry in an hour.

MOST aldults that I know that eat there because their kids BEG to go there. Mcdonalds has done well to advertise toys and such, it's probably one of the biggest reasons people go there.

That's pretty gross.

"Nutritional" pamphlet I picked up at McDonald's back in college pretty much cured me of eating at places like that, unless, like ya said, I'm in a pinch and it's that or nothing.

I don't need to lose weight. It's everyone else that does. Everyone seems to be a 36" or larger in pant sizes nowadays which is very frustrating for those of us that are slim.

LOL, a couple years ago McDonalds was having a 2 for $2 special on quarter pounders. I took a 19 year old man-boy in there and said "I have $2.12, I'll just order 2 and give you one". He said "Nah, I have some money, I'm going to have 2". I told him "I wouldn't do that if I were you".

I ate my quarter pounder and felt the stirring of gas and mush from the grease, but it wasn't bad and went away by the time he was done with his second quarter pounder. Then he said "I think you were right" and RAN to the toilet! w0-0t!

The funny thing was, he gained 30lbs... AND started puking several times a day EVERYDAY after the first week... can you imagine his weight gain if he hadn't been puking? His liver went toxic on him... his Cholest went through the roof... it was absolutely insane the damage the fast food did to his body.

Someone pointed out above that fast food in moderation is fine.

How could it be?

So it takes a year to gain those 30 pounds instead? Without the puking it would probably be more weight. All the health problems make fast food one of the worst things you can put in your body. It has virtually no nutrutional value yet people rely on it for sustanance. Eating fast food everyday for lunch wouldn't be considered outrageous yet that is 1/3 of what this guy did.

I urge everyone to go to their favorite fast food of choice's website and read the nutritional information. It's disgusting!

> Someone pointed out above that fast food in moderation is fine.

I'd agree with that, with this aside- Dealing with food as bad for you as fast food generally is moderation means <1x/mo. :P

I eat fast food alot -- subway, blimpie, quiznos, subshop, etc. Mine's not too bad, but it would definetly be better if I ate at home.

6" Ham & Swiss and Ham & Swiss Salads. (Lettuce & S&P & Vinegar & Black Olives are all I add. They generally come out < 500 calories and less than 25% of the calories from fat.)

When I was fat I typically ate at MCD 3-4x a week... and here's what I got in quick summary.

2 Double QP w/Cheese 770 cal/ea (430 fat cal/ea)
1 SS Fries 610 cal (260 fat cal)
1 9pc Chicken Nugget 420 cal (220 fat cal)
1 SS Coke 410 cal (0 fat cal-- all sugar)
Total Calories- 2980 fat Calories- 1340 (Avg Adult Male Needs 2400 cal/day, avg adult female needs about 1900 cal/day, to MAINTAIN weight... each lb you need to loose requires a 3500 calories deficiet in your diet... so thus far I've cut about 500k calories out of my diet in a year and change... and still need to ditch about another 100k... fat sucks. easy to add, hard to get rid of.)

and that's a single meal. Its really no wonder i was a lard ass... but at the same time-- who's fault was it that I got fat? Mine. I made a *CHOICE* to eat there, no one forced the food down my throat. Hardee's is no better, no is burger king, wendy's, arby's, rally's... all hideous and I ate at each of those a few times a week.

The *best* of the fast food places would be your subshops and taco bell and long john silvers. Course I didn't eat those... not enough fat :P If i get a real craving for fast food I goto LJS now or TB and get 2 fish/tacos w/sc... bad but nothing compared to getting a double qp w/c value meal or a bk bigfish meal. Generally I try to stick with subs or homecooked.

You can eat just about anything you want and loose weight, I could eat only MCD and loose weight, it just would be dreadfully unhealthy and the portions wouldn't be very large.

Shrug, each person is solely responsible for what they put in their body, the food at mcd et all might be sh!t but in all honesty its only our own fault if we eat it.

I don't think I could eat that much... When McD did the 2 for $2, I have done 2 QPwC, SS Fry, and part of the large drink, but that was my limit...

I never had a Double QPC.... I usually would get like a QPC meal SSed and a double cheeseburger...

Sounds like exactly what I did a few years back. Ate nothing but McD every lunch. Had two burgers, Dbl-Cheese & QPBs (sometimes more) + large fries and a can of coke (actually 3-4 cans of coke per day). All this for 5-6 days a week. Wasn't out of choice of course.

When I stopped, I was at about 210lbs. The first & second month after stopping, I lost about 11lbs. I then got a tad carried away and lost the next 33lbs in the following month. Stretch marks are farking stupid.

if you eat mcdonalds every now and then you are doing little additional harm.

granted its still bad what you are putting in your body, but every so often is going to cause you a whole lot of problems. granted i think if most people knew what they were ingesting they might think twice. i know the next big craze everyone will sue mcdonalds because there food is addicting and tastes so good yet is so bad for you. now if you excuse me i am off to get a 10 piece mcnugget and a double quarterpounder with cheese meal supersized with extra lard and fat, hmmmmm

In moderation, eating fast food is fine. A double-double from In-&-Out is 700 calories, with 400 for fries and an Ice-Tea isn't too bad for dinner every now and again. Of course you could always eat better, and 2 of those a day every day isn't too good, but every few days or once a week probably won't cause too much harm.

I've cut down my soda intake drastically over the past few weeks. I use to drink upwards of 1/2 gallon a day, which is like 800 calories. Now, I maybe drink 1/4 or less of the soda I use to drink, and have replaced it with herbal ice teas (my mother started an herbal tea business, so...).

I do eat fast food a little too much, maybe every 2 or 3 days. I wouldn't say I'm overweight, clocking in at 165 or so. I could probably stand to lose 5 pounds I guess, but excercising more would do a better job at that than changing diet would.

The old saying "it's not what you eat, it's how much you eat," rings true when talking about fast food. A little is okay, a lot isn't.

There's a scar reduction creme called Mederma (Spelling might be slightly off) it's not cheap, but it does drastically reduce the visibility of stretchmarks, I had... alot. They're not really caused by loosing but by gaining... its an "reminder of how miserable being fat is" to quote my pt... only way to really get rid of them entirely is surgury that removes the flesh they're attached to... and thats really not a hot option. pretty much anything that gets rid of scars works on stretchmarks too, lasers, mederma, etc.

In/Out is fast food that I can actually eat every once in a while. It's made fresh so I suppose that's why. Sandwich shops I wouldn't consider fast food.

Fast food like the McDonalds, KFC, Taco Bell, Burger King, Church's chicken, etc aren't selling food though. They're offering a smell and a taste and then selling saturated fats. I'm surprised that it's allowed.

I don't eat McDonald's or Burger King. The food just doesn't taste good. KFC Popcorn chicken is pretty good, so I eat it. I like Taco Bell's Grilled Stufft Chicken Burritos (or just GSCB's as I call em :P), and will eat Jack in the Box every now and again (not too often though). Baker's is like In-&-Out, fresh and good, and not gross like McDonald's.

I don't think it would really be feasible to outlaw fast food. People, and the companies, sure wouldn't like it. There have been smal steps in some of these chains offering healthier foods, but to be effective we'll need to see a lot more of it.

The fast food industry provides jobs. It also helps fuel the health care industry by making people unhealthy.

If you got rid of it the economic impact would be huge. They need to change it though. Stop costing the tax payers billions and bring back small pant sizes!

I'm sure that the textile industry would make a hefty profit if they could go back to selling smaller pant sizes, thus using less material, and still charge the same.

We should ban it. I'm sure it would end up being a wash economically but people would be healthier.

ever notice how food that is really bad for you (fast food, junk food, etc) is really cheap yet healthy food is ungodly expensive. its almost as if they want us to eat poorly so we will be in poor health and then have to spends tons of money at the doctors to make ourselves better. and buy health club memberships, etc.

i have the story that takes the cake (no pun intended)

i used to work in high school for a frozen custard joint. now frozen custard joints are rare they exist in wisconsin in abundance and maybe 2 or 3 other places in the us.

custard is made with 10 percent more fat than ice cream and let me tell you in the summer we never had a shortage of customers. but wait we also served food, you know the kind, big burgers, greasy fries, grilled and fried chicken, onion rings, grilled cheese.

what would kill me is someone would order a burger with cheese, french fries, a shake and a diet f#$%6ng coke, because they are watching their weight. what a bunch of morons.

places like those are dangerous i probably gained 40 to 50 pounds working there, cause all we'd do is eat during shift. we always had games to see who could sneak the most food from the place. those were the days.

Quality food is much more expensive to grow. Stuffing an animal with hormones and chemicals is much more economical than letting it roam free to feed on natural grass. Shame really, the later tastes much better.

I had a buddy who worked at a place like that in high school. Foster freeze or frosties or something. We used to get a lot of free food.

The whole diet coke thing is retarded. The only diet think I like is snapple since it actually tastes better. Regular snapple tastes like pure sugar.
