I'm wondering if you could write an educational piece about to what extent multi-core CPUs make a real difference, especially under Windows. For instance:
- What popular applications are using multiple cores?
- To what extent do games use multi-core?
- Is there a limit to how many cores popular game engines can handle or is it dynamic?
- Will two or more applications running in parallel automatically be allocated to different cores?
- If so, is load-balancing being made by the OS so that a heavy-duty application uses more cores?

This would make it easier to understand the value of multiple cores, whatever performance could be expected purely theoretically.

Cheers.

Nice idea but just get a quad core unless pro photoshopping or similar.
sorry it's not much of an answer but it's what I think any long article would sum up as.

Robi_g there is pretty much spot-on with his response. We could do something more in-depth, but this may have been covered by other sites or even manufacturers themselves more in-depth. I'll pass it along.
