Why wont my 2 6ghz computer load windows vista?

why won't windows vista boot on my computer? it is a 2.6GHz. with 2 gb of ram.

when i try to boot the vista disk, it tells me that my computer can not run this operating system.

My first guess is you have an x86 CPU and are trying to install x64 version of Vista but can't confirm without more info like CPU model or make and model of the computer.

WOW that's an old board.....

Camikazi's most likely right, you're probably trying to run the x64 version of Vista while your CPU only supports x86. (64-bit won't work, 32-bit will)

Yeah, you have an old Pentium 4 system. Only a few of the later Prescott Pentium 4s support 64 bit, you probably have a Northwood P4, so no 64 bit support for you. If you really want to install Windows Vista on that system, you will have to find a 32 bit copy.
