Im considering switching to intel like literally in a few days, my current setup is a full on amd system with a fx 4100 , 8gig ram and a hd 6870. when I switch ill keep the gpu and ram and but my cpu and mobo will be replaced with an i3 3220 and a ASUS P8H61 mobo. How ever im still on the fence a little bit should I wait for piledriver? or just switch now? Early benchmarks show that the fx 8350 matches a sandy bridge i7 2600k but I just dont know if its worth it, Ill still be one generation behind if I waited and got the 8350. What do you guys think? any benefit for me waiting or should I kiss amd good bye?

yeah wait for it but i wouldnt hold your breath on the figures amd promises i wonder what benchmarks its supposed to compete with the 2600k on, maybe heavily threaded productivity stuff, no doubt will still get slaughtered in games. but hey i hope im wrong the competition would be good, intel can get lazy otherwise!

If you mobo can support and overclock a piledriver fx cpu, you may want to wait. I wonder how well it will overclock and how much it will cost myself.

Your mobo may yet be good for steamroller next year, but besides maybe a few slightly faster ivy procs, LGA1155 is done(Haswell will be LGA1150).

@jasont78: several tests of the piledriver architecture both here at tom's and at other sites(extremetech) have show a pretty decent improvement in ipc.

If fx8350 can trade blows with i7 quads(both at stock speeds), and both can oc, things could get interesting(fx8350 will likely consume more power, tho).
