ata cables & cd-roms, rw's & dvd's

Question.
Do any current cd rom drives, cd burners or dvd drives use the 80 pin ata66/100 cable?

Question 2.
ive got a sony 52x cd-rom and a ricoh 12x10x32 burner.
im pretty sure both are happy on a 40 pin ata33 cable. im correct in that assumption arnt i?

To the best of my knowledge, there are none of those listed devices that use the ATA66 or ATA100 standard. You can still use an ATA66/100 cable on an ATA33 device though; it's backwards compatible.

Both your CDROM and CDRW will be fine on the ATA33 cable/port.

When I was using my old computer, the 6.4gig ibm drive got about 8 meg/sec with a 40c cable. It jumped up to 8.7meg/sec when I threw in an 80c cable. I think you get a little more 'efficiency', but whether it will speed you up is another matter. I use nothing but 80c cables, now.
