Cant get sound to save my life

i have a 6950 and today i was moving my computer and was steping on the hdmi cable. well in the process it pulled all the wires out of the head of the cable. hdmi cable down. so i hooked up the display with a dvi and an audio cable from the back of the MOBO to the display and i can not get any sound. the computer is not recognizing the audio cables for some reason. my sound drivers are up to date as well

any ideas>

check if you did not damage the hdmi connector on the board

Well he's using DVI so hes not using HDMI.

Grab a HDMI cable from monoprice for $2.

yeah i was going to do that in the morning but i am still not getting sound from the front port of the case and i was before. its not my headphones they work in my laptop. and my display was outputing sound right before.
