Bad Power Supply?

I just posted this up on the motherboard message board, but maybe someone in here could help. I just put together my system but nothing happens when I turn it on. Not a thing. I figured at least the power supply would do something but nothing happens. Perhaps that's how it goes when something is bad or something is set up wrong but how am I to know if the power supply doesn't even come to life. I'm 99% sure everything is plugged in right but I just don't know what to do. Any ideas or thoughs would be great. Thanks!

This might sound patronising, but bear with me.

First, try a different power socket in the wall.
Next, change the fuse in the plug.
Next, see if you can get a different PSU to try.

Try those steps out and come back with more.
