Friend is looking to purchase a laptop for school

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Today or tomorrow

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: I7-2670QM ( 2.2GHz 1333MHz 6MB ), 8GB 1333mhz ram

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Lenovo or other suggestions

PARTS PREFERENCES: Nvidia or AMD (Whichever gives higher framerates for laptop)

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1366 x 768

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Friend is looking to buy a laptop for school & primarily getting it for the mobile factor. However he also wants to game on. Games he will be playing are Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2

Btw AMD 7690M vs Nvidia 555m @ 1366 x 768 resolution, which mobile card will run the games better & will either of them run Guild Wars 2 on low/med settings.

If you scroll down the list you can select the two cards and restrict the results to games you think you'll play as well.

It does seem the AMD has a slight edge over the Nvidia. The AMD appears to have more stream processors, but the benchmark results are pretty similar. The prices of both of the laptops you linked are pretty competitive and seem like good deals.

The Amd is a 7690M (not 6790). I'm unfamiliar with mobile gpus & all the diff watered down types they have vs their desktop counterparts. Any information would be of help or maybe other suggestions in the $1000 max price range.

7690M is ranked a bit high than GT 555m on notebookcheck website. So I would say the AMD unless your friends wants to play a lot of Skyrim, which has been very tweaked on nVidia drivers.
