Lately my desktop has been making a grinding and clinking noise. I discovered that the fan blades in the heatsink are loose ( when I had it open and running I say the blades where wobbly) I am going to try to clean it but if all else fails it needs to be replaced I don't know what would be a good replacement. I have an:

emacines t5088 pentium 4 with an Intel 945GC chip

Does anyone know of a good replacement or know how to replace the fan only? I have screws with springs (if that makes any sense). I would upgrade but can't afford it. :pt1cable:

Thanks

Sounds like the bearings are going out on your fan. Unless you have a surplus store nearby that you can pick up a fan the same size, I think your best bet would be to get an inexpensive aftermarket HSF, something like the Rosewill RCX-Z300 92mm Ball CPU Cooler for $10 (free shipping) here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
It is probably not much (if any) better than your stock CPU cooler but it shouldn't have faulty bearings and is not much more than you would find a used 45-90mm 4 pin fan for. I used 45-90mm because I could find no information on what your stock fan size is, somewhere in there...

Thanks I did find out what it is it is pkp418g01u12 heatsink cooling fan by foxconn I think but it looks like it is close to what I have. On my heatsink it is called spring loaded screws. I did clean it and it is no longer clicking but it is still loud and grinds but not as much. It is just annoying. So I might get a new one since I cant get the fan off. Thanks for the help. Anyone know any others?
