I have been receiving an error message "..is not availble. The device is not ready." I removd the CD rom via device manager and then reinstalled it again but still got the sma error message.

A friend of mine suggested I re-boot the the PC with a Windows 98 system CD in the CD rom. This, for some reason, has fixed the problem. The system was not booted from the CD.

The question I have is what causes starting the PC with a Win98 CD loaded fixing the problem?

I was getting the "..is not available. The device is not ready." message whenever I tried to access the CD rom. (via explorer or with audio CDs). Problem has disappeared since doing the Win98 CD trick. I am running on Win95.
