You lucked out dude! That's still a pretty nice GPU even if it's several years old. What power supply do you have (wattage and brand/model number)? That 295 is a very very power hungry GPU and if you don't have enough power (or PCIE power connectors) you'll be getting crashes and glitches and all sorts of nasty stuff.
 
For a system using a single GeForce GTX 295 graphics card NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 680 Watt or greater power supply that has a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 46 Amps or greater and that has at least one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in determining power supply adequacy!!! Total Continuous Amperage Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most important factor.
