Building a ~$2000 gaming/editing PC (starting with nothing)

Hey guys,

I came across this forum a couple of days ago and it has helped me a lot with pretty much every aspect of this build. Great forum and everyone appears to be pretty helpful!

This brings me to the reason for this post, I basically just wanted to make sure my build was on the right track and that I hadn't done anything completely wrong.. I haven't been following hardware for the past couple of years so I'm not up to speed.

Help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Approximate Purchase Date: Over the next couple of weeks (whenever I decide my build is up to scratch)

Budget Range: $1500-$2000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Video editing, animation, gaming and surfing the net

Parts Not Required: This is a completely new system and I will need everything

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I have been looking at PCCG but I am open to suggestions

Country: Australia

Parts Preferences: No preference just so long as it is good quality

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I am looking for a mid range PC that is capable of intense editing/rendering as well as gaming/recording. A quiet system would be good but I don't want to compromise performance just to lower the noise by a few dB..

Here is what I have in mind at the moment, I am extremely open to suggestions.

That motherboard is not compatible with the CPU. You need an AM3+ MOBO

Some interesting links there. So why would you recommend Intel over AMD?

Could you comment on the build I set up originally and explain your reasons for changing out parts, please?

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2 <---- They don't have the 3570K on there yet (newer cpu), but you can use the 2500K to get a good idea of what that cpu will do. You can match cpu's on there for a head to head benchmarks.
