Wired works but not wireless

Hello,
My win 7 machine connects fine to the wired network, but when connecting to a wireless network it just says local connection only...unidentified network. It cant seen to identify it for some reason...tried static IP and obtain auto, Wireless key is correct. various other things tried. Any suggestions. Thanks

Is this a Notebook? Is there an external button or slide switch or FN key combo needed to turn on the wireless?

Its a Laptop, wireless connects to the router, connects local but says no internet access. if i look at the packet data status, there is sent but nothing received

What does ipconfig tell you about that adapter? If it has an IP, can you ping that IP? Can you connect ping the gateway? Ping other computers on the network?

Sorry Im not in front of that machine now, but when we tried, IPConfig gives all the corect adresses of the gateway etc but you cant ping any thing, all firewalls are switched off

it seems to me that it's misconfigured, have you made sure that the password encoding is the same on router and your laptop? (WEP/AES/etc)

Yes, I also thought it was that but I have checked that and reentered a few times, connets with same setting from another win 7 wireless laptop
