Burner has stopped burning :(

ive only used my burner twice before.
to make an audio cd and a backup of my windows cd.
zero problems for both
yesterday i went to make another audio cd.
refused to burn. it gives me a "SCSI/IDE error" a:
ricoh 12x10x32
win2k service pack 2
latest 4 in 1 drivers
asus a7v133 & 1055a bios
using nero cd burning software supplied with burner.

other data:
my fsb is overclocked to 150. i thought that may be an issue, but it doesnt burn at 133 (33 pci) either.
reading audio cds, data cd's, and ripping music works fine.
ive tried burning, test & burn, & pain test. none work
the nero software sets up but just refuses to start burning, at any speed.
i also got the following error report.

I was being facetious.

Anyway, so what is it doing? I can see 'failed simulation', but that's the only thing that really means anything to me. The general rule is if you burner fails a simulation, you've got bad memory or i/o in the burner itself. If it passes a sim. but fails a write, you've got a bad laser/lens/power supply.

problem solved

guess what the problem was?
the FREAKING VIA 4in1 drivers GRRRRR *1 angry hamster*
i did some experimenting and...
in my device list the cd-rom & the burner both show up as themselves. nothing else.
i reinstalled windows i was that annoyed.
everything was fine.
I install the 4.24 via 4in1 drivers from the asus CD supplied.
still no problems
then i install the later 4.28 drivers got from the asus website.
BOOM
it overwrites the 3 controllers, forgotten the name of em, maybe (primary, secondary and via bus master), turning them all to via
at the same time mysteriously turning both my hard drives, my sony 52x cd & ricoh 12x10x32x burner into SCSI named devices!
this doesnt seem to affect the sony 52x, but i suspect its the reason why i cant install many games recently on my HDD and EDFINATELY the reason why my burner is on the fritz.

the most annoying thing is i tried to remove the 4in1 drivers, yet the SCSI identification for my drives remains, even if i completely remove all software and device drives for the burner.
ugh.

any suggestions?
personally when i get home from work today its a big WIPE of the HDD and a fresh shiny copy of win2k. avoiding those 4in1 4.28 drivers like the plague!

Well, seeing how they are up to 4.32 4n1 now, you can keep going or install the 4.24 and forget about it....

Via should have what you need, and asus has the bios updates (1.05 now).
