I would like to purchase the SB i7-2700k over the IB i7-3770k because I heard the temperatures for the 3770k is all over the place. I would like to overclock but not spend to much on cooling. So what motherboard would you recommend me to get? Or should I just get a z68 3rd Gen. What downfalls would i have running a Sandy Bridge CPU on a Z77 motherboard meant for Ivy Bridge?

I tend to play a lot of cpu based games, that rely on the cpu more than the GPU. I will also b purchasing a amd 7850 with it. Currently i have a x6 1600t (not x6 1100t) I also do video editing and rendering.

With 2700k on z77 you get PCIe2.0 with 3770k you get PCIe 3.0

3770k is approximately 5% faster than 2700k on same frequency IB 4.3GHz= SB 4.5GHz

For all but extreme overclocking 3770k is better choice

With CM Hyper 212 EVO you should get around 4.4GHz on 3770k

Budget for cpu cooler/cpu/mobo is around 500-550 i can go to microcenter. I already have a phantom 410 case, g skills sniper ram at 1866, 1 tb hdd+120gb ssd, and a corsair 600 watt gaming series psu

Buy ASUS Maximus V Gene, 2700k and noctua nh-d14 if you have money left buy 3770k. I think noctua nh-d14 is better than CoolerMaster V8. Your ram is apparently low profile so it will not make problems with noctua.
what graphics card you intend to use?
