Looking to add some memory to my computer, since it's on the cheap nowadays. My question concerns the quality needed. While I can get a 512 stick for $55, it's the generic, and some places say it won't do well in an Athlon system. I'm not interested in OCing so I just need PC 133. Here are the necessary system specs.

Athlon 1.0 GHz
Via 133 chipset (Tyan board)
Win 2K

Thanks.

Get the cheapest memory you can find. Get Cas3 because your so cheap that Cas2 is too good for you. Then when your generic memory give you erros, come whining back to us. OR get TWO of THESE for 512MB and then you won't need to worry about a thing.

Hehehe...mean, but true.

I agree with getting decent memory (there's not really any price difference nowadays), but I haven't had a problem with my 256+128+128 generic RAM on my Abit KT7a-RAID.

Well, thanks for the friendly advice. I don't design RAM for a living, so I don't know the true differences in different price levels. It's not like cereal, for example where the Kroger Oats are pretty damn close to Cheerios. And it's not like I'm a computer dumbass, having used PCs since the 386 days, built my own PCs for years, and programmed in several languages. Anyway, I'll get the standard RAM.

unlike your cherrios,
you really get what you pay for. (except if you buy a pentium4) lol

buy el-cheapo ram and dont expect performance miracles, also dont be suprised if it locks up or has compatibility issues.

Watch out for cheap memory. Check AMD's Quick Reference FAQ (page 4) for details why.
