hi all,

my computer stopped working, so I'm thinking its the PSU because it gives off a faint electronic smell
But here's the thing: when I put power on the system, the light on the motherboard, next to the 24 pin connector blinks
Does this mean that the PSU is fine or is it partially fried?

Prior to this I've had some instances when I pressed the power button it wouldn't power-up, but after a couple of secs
it'd power-up anyways, other times it powered up directly.

What should I do?

To see if your psu comes on at all, take it out of the computer and jump the green and black wires/pins (Usually the black wires/pins are right beside the green wire/pin). Use a paper clip, and jump the two, then turn plug in power cord. If it doesn't come on, try the other black wire/pin beside the green wire/pin.

I tried the paperclip thing today, the fan does come on, but there is a slight sound coming from it. no smell coming from it though. but in conjunction with the motherboard the smell returns.

I'll just buy a new one I guess.

thanks anyways for the help
