Hi guys, new here. I'm totally freaked out... I think my new phenom ii X4 965 BE is running at 3.0GHz instead of 3.4, and I think the voltage is too high?? I haven't changed anything in the BIOS, my old chip was 3.0 (Phenom ii X2 945).

It's running at 36 degrees right now. Just installed it 15 minutes ago. Have rebooted many times and checked everything in the BIOS is set to AUTO.

The multiplier is at 15x and the bus speed 200. Can anyone tell me what it's supposed to be set to? 17x / 200?

Is my CPU messed up? This is only my second CPU ever, so I'm new to this... thanks in advance for the help.

17 is the correct multiplier for stock settings. 36c is fine. That voltage appears a bit high, according to CPU World the voltage range is 0.85V - 1.425V but that might just be for stock settings and not the Max safe voltage.

Excuse me if my limited experience with Phenom's is apparent it's been a while since I gave my old one away.

Is there any reason why a chip would not start up at it's correct settings? That really worried me that my chip was slightly dead or messed up or something.

Thanks for the quick reply, I set it manually to 17x and set the voltage to 1.4v. It's now running at 33 degrees and 3.4GHz.

That's one of the issues with Auto settings, some boards are a bit overzealous on voltages. And the normal settings not being applied could be because of the old CPU, it would be best to load default settings when you install the new one.

The Phenom II x2 545 has a multiplier of 15 for 3ghz and roughly similar voltages.
