Buying my college bound, engineering student son a Lenovo Thinkpad W530. Besides school, he will use it to play Team Fortress Two.

We will buy the memory upgrade after market.

Am debating on the hard drive. Is it really worth $240 to upgrade to 128GB SSD. If not, do we go for 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM drive?

No. You can get a 256GB 7mm (7mm is IMPORTANT) Crucial from NewEgg for ~299. Get an ultrabay expansion and put the HD that comes with it in there (for file storage), best of both worlds. Since all programs would be on the SSD anything he'd need to install you just swap the HD for the DVD. It's what I do on my T61p.

I was waiting for the W530. With the new keyboard I'm going to have to try it first (since I've used the "old" one since ~1994).
