AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 x4 vs. Phenom II X4 980 Tags: CPUs Bulldozer AMD Phenom Last response: October 6, 2012 6:27 PM in CPUs Share 0ldboy October 3, 2012 8:03:52 PM Hello everyone, I am looking to do do a little CPU upgrade. I currently have an AMD Phenom ii x2 555 Black Edition overclocked to 3.6 GHZ. I was wondering a few things I would like you to help me with... Is it worth upgrading to one of these - AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 x4 - or the - Phenom II X4 980 - And second, which one do I go for if I do? Thanks very much in advance More about : amd bulldozer 4100 phenom 980 whatsthatnoise a b à CPUs October 3, 2012 8:16:55 PM Phenom II X4 965, overclocks about the same as the 980, same chip, but a lower stock clock and therefore costs less. esrever a b à CPUs a b À AMD October 3, 2012 8:18:02 PM The phenom 980 is a good upgrade to the x2. The 4100 is slower than the 980 generally so I would stay away from that unless its significantly cheaper. Have you tried to unlock your 555? if not, its like a free upgrade if it works out. the deactivated cores in the cpu can be reactivated if there are so flaws. I had to reset the Cmos each time after attempting to unlock it... big shame. So OK, the 980, would it be a highly noticeable upgrade from the 555? Again thank you esrever a b à CPUs a b À AMD October 3, 2012 8:35:19 PM Depending on what you are doing the 980 should be a good upgrade. As whatsthatnoise also said, the lower modeled phenom IIx4s like the 965BE are pretty much just as good if you overclock as most of them hits about 3.9 to 4.0 on air. 0ldboy October 6, 2012 6:43:22 AM OK well thanks for your help everyone, looking forward to my new processor (still haven't decided yet) amuffin a c 186 à CPUs a b À AMD October 6, 2012 6:52:20 AM 980BE was the fastest Phenom II X4 chip, it's faster than the FX-4100. sarinaide a b à CPUs October 6, 2012 11:14:23 AM Phenom II x 4 955 BE is all you need, all the others are just clock bumps thats about it. sarinaide a b à CPUs October 6, 2012 11:14:37 AM Phenom II x 4 955 BE is all you need, all the others are just clock bumps thats about it. 0ldboy October 6, 2012 11:26:21 AM So would you go for a 955BE over an FX4170 for example? esrever a b à CPUs a b À AMD October 6, 2012 5:46:18 PM 0ldboy said:So would you go for a 955BE over an FX4170 for example? definitely.
