I am building a gaming PC. I will not be able to afford an Intel, as I already have an AMD motherboard and cannot afford to get an Intel compatible one. I also have a low budget for the CPU. I cannot spend over ~$120.
Specs for the rest of the build:
Mobo: MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970
RAM: 8 gigs ddr3
HDD: 400 GB Caviar blue
Video card: Radeon HD 7770
Thank you!

I vote for the PhIIx4 965BE. Easy to O/C and only $90 w/promo code if you act fast:

The Phenom may be a bit 'long in the tooth' but it still is a proven performer. It will keep up with almost any graphic card you'll want to buy... especially when O/C.

Phenom x4 965 is better.

Its a true quad core cpu, the 4100 is a "pseudo quad" aka dual module cpu. It has 4 integer cores and only 2 shared fp cores. The phenom has 4 of each.

Definitely the 965 BE. Overall it will out perform the Bulldozer in most games.

Thank you everyone! Just bought the Phenom while it was on offer for 90 bucks on Newegg!

Best choice between the two, by far. Don't go too heavy on the O/Cing untill you get a better cooler, tho. The stock cooler wasn't designed to cool much beyond the stock speed. Even if you don't O/C it will be a great gamer.
