That was quick only a year or two into dual core and out comes a showcase of Quad-Core processors!

It seems that Intel and AMD will compete at the electronics show this year!

AMD’s quad-core processors are due out in early 2007, but some industry analysts have said AMD could release them by the end of this year.

No offense, but is it really necessary to showcase old news.

Yes, both AMD and Intel are working on quad core chips. Officially Intel won the race by demoing Cloverton first to a private audience, although AMD will argue that Cloverton is technically not a "true" quad core. Both Cloverton and the quad core for Socket F are expected in Q1 2007 although both are trying to get it in this year. Realistically it should be less complicated for Intel since all they need to due is slap two Woodcrests together and order a BIOS update.

What I'm interested in is the desktop quad core Kentsfield that Intel looks to have for H1 2007. As far as I know, AMD hasn't announced a response to this nor have they confirmed that AM2 can even support quad cores which is something they advertise Socket F for. We'll be looking for a K8L, 65nm version of course.
