my friend had an ati 5850 which is pretty much the same in performance. he was using an e5200 overclocked to 3.65ghz and it was a brutal bottleneck on pretty much every modern game. get a quad core and overclock it or just upgrade the whole system.
I specifically remember him play battlefield bad company 2 and the CPU graph was at 90-100% while GPU load was hovering around 50%. If that's how it was on BC2 then imagine how bad battlefield 3 will be. Also GTA4 was equally bad.

Well the only core I think i can upgrade to with 4 cores is a Intel core 2 quad
I was about to buy a Q6600 quad core? Is this enough for these games?
you could do a lot better than a q6600. there was a whole generation beyond the q6600 that fit into socket 775. also called core2 but with a shrunken die.

right now i dont wanna upgrade to i5 or i7 yet as I got the motherboard and ram replaced but now its too late so I gotta stick with the LGA775 Socket for now. i might Just buy a stronger cpu then overclock it to the max
no no, you see there were 2 generations of cpus released onto socket 775. it started at 90nm but then another generation came out under 65nm. like a q9400 or something.

So what CPU with socket lga775 do you recommend me?
honestly, whatever quadcore you can get cheap. even a q6600. if you can get better like a q8400 or q9400 or better for cheap, get that. i wouldnt invest much more money in that system personally.
The problem is those 775 quad processors are becoming difficult to find thru normal channels.....and the premium ones are bringing more than a motherboard and an i5 would cost. Don't do that.
X9650 is about the max you can go. It's unlocked and awesome. But yes the price might be high. I found one on ebay a while back for a reasonable price. You have to look around.
well I decided to buy a Q6600 Core 2 Quad but I was wandering is my cpu cooler strong enough? Its A Ice Edge mini FS But It says It support the Core 2 Quad. Would It handle the heat if I overclocked it?
Thanks Guys for all ur replies
probably, only one way to find out though. put it on and slowly increase your fsb and volts while monitoring your temps
Well been overclocking and the temps never past 70c. it stays at about 67c on nearly all 4 cores? is that a safe temp range? to me thats hot as i have never had a quad core and never seen there temps. My old cpu never past 60c at full load
sounds like you are bouncing off your thermal limit. i would put money on the cpu throttling itself. frankly its too warm for that cpu.
Thanks for ur reply
I decided to throw out the small heatsink and put a massive one on and now it gets about 60c at full load and about 40c on idle
Right Now Im trying to overclock higher but it would get a BSOD so no idea
