Hi,

I am looking for a graphics card solely to play Diablo 3 on max settings. My budget is under 200.

The computer is hooked up to a 32 inch 720p tv with a resolution set at 1280 x 768.

Here are my other specs:

Motherboard: ASRock Z68 PRO3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68
CPU: i5-2500k
RAM: 4GB
Power: Antec BP550 Plus

My questions:

1. I have been looking at the gtx 550ti and gtx 460. Since I am not going to be playing any other games, would any of these cards be good enough to max out Diablo 3, or are there some better options?

2. Should I be worried about the image quality based on my TV as a monitor with any of these cards?

GTX 460 is a decent choice. Don't buy GTX 550 Ti, it's bad for your money. And if you're buying a GTX 460, check it to be with a 256-bit bus.

Another choice, which is priced just above GTX 460 but has a very solid value and better performance, would be HD 6870.

As sunius said, the 6870 is an exceptional choice for under 200$, as on a 720p tv it can run any game including bf3 maxed out (of course it might be overkill for diablo alone) Despite how much I love the 6870, I think the best card for you would be a gtx 560. Diablo 3 is an nvidia the way its meant to be played game, giving the 560 an advantage over AMD cards, and the 560 will have enough power to max it out, without breaking the bank. If you do plan to play any other more demanding games in the future, spend a little bit of extra money, and purchase the 6870 (it is an overall more powerful card). If you are exclusively playing diablo 3, the 560 will more than handle it, probably as good as the 6870 as diablo3 is an twimtbp game. :)

Edit: actually, you can get a 6870 for cheaper than the 560, in that case I would highly recommend the 6870 :)

Yes, I did say it was an Nvidia the way its meant to be played game :)  I am quite indescisive on what to recommend to him, the 460 is quite weak but would handle the game well, but the 6870 is just a little bit more expensive, for a massive performance jump. I suppose it would be up to the OP to decide whther he would rather have performance, or a little bit more cash in his pocket.

Well i would not say massive performance jump from a GTX 460 1gb 256bit to a 6870 but tangible for sure. Blizzard games play better on Nvidia cards everyone knows this.

Well it al depends what you define "massive" as :)  I was saying he would receive better Overall performance, and probably slightly higher frames on diablo 3 with the 6870. TWIMTBP Can only make up for so much, though I'm sure he will find himself completely satisfied with either choice, one will just leave him with 30 bucks more in his pocket, and the other with a bit better performance.

ur max resolution is 720p unless u buy another monitor with 1080p resolution. Any mid range card will do. Don't buy 460 or 560 as 660 will be released soon. Diablo release date is 15 may. u have more then one whole month to wait. so, u can wait for 660. Moreover this card will reach performance level of 580 gtx considering similar ati mid range card. Playing solo and playing multiplayer is different with all setting to high . So it is better to buy a solid mid range card. So 660 will be ur best bet.

Problem is OP does not need a $200 or $300 Video card to run D3 perfectly so why suggest he waste his money is beyond me.

You don't need a GTX 580 performance class card to run D3 or any Blizzard game why spend that much is beyond me.

look there will a clear price war between ati and nvidia. The game will be released on may 15. so we have time. It is better to wait . 660 is meant to replace 560, so it will be in the same price range. ati 9950 will directly compete with this card. the way 9970 performed against 680 same will happen here. To compete, ati will decrease its price. If 660 is $ 250 then 9950 price will fall to 200. Moreover nvidia generally release two versions of 660. a normal 660 and another Ti version. so if 660 ti is $ 250 ( considering 560 Ti) then regular 660 will be around $ 200. ytg1 has around 2 month time. It is better to buy after the game is release. Then we will get the performance chart of many cards with respect to this game. So, it is premature to advise him now on a yet to be release game (beta is out but betas r not optimized) and with many new cards to be released soon.

Your point is ? Because a $140 GTx 460 256bit 1gb will be more than enough for D3 maxed out and if not theres always EVGA step up program plus EVGA has extend there new Global warranties with a 3 year minimum fully transferable as in it follows the product not the person FTW.

If u get a newer version of the card within the same price range, it is better to buy the new one. Moreover these 400 series cards are not on nvidia's famed side. Nor are the 500 series, modifed version of 400 series. Ok. MMO Fan

the GTX 460 was one of Nvidias best creations EVER it is power effecint cool quite and still plays most games maxed out YOU DO NOT NEED A BRAND NEW HIGH END CARD TO PLAY D3 maxed

It is about money. It makes no sense when u can get a latest card on the same money range . His range is $200 max. So he can spend upto that range. And don not SHOUT like a retarded with capital letters.

GENIUS the 660 is OVERKILL for OP GTX 680 = $500 so safe to say the GTX 670 will be $350 and the GTX 660 will be way more than $200
