thinking about getting the Ivy bridge I5-3750k with this Mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
but the concern i have is that i'm wanting to get the Radeon HD 6870 GPU...which PCI 2.1, will this work with the PCI 3.0? and if so will it be at 2.0 or 3.0 speed?

Nothing can saturate 2.0 I believe, so it doesn't matter. It will work, problems only arise when 2.1 in 1.0.

Or perhaps a PCI-e 3.0 card in a PCI-e 1.0/1.1 slot.

It will run at PCIE 2.0 speeds. It's not much of a difference really. A few compute applications benefit from PCIE 3.0, but you'd know if you were using one of those.
