Bang For My Buck

I know this has been beaten to death and i have been reading for the last three days (illness) and i have decided not to spend $500+ on a new Video Card and after long hours of reading i have settled in on the sweet spot of $150 - $190 including shipping and taxes (11% here in CA) so i have only a few questions. Just to clear up a few things i have more than adequate power, I have 4 monitors (don't plan to use 'em), I don't plan on O'Cing but the absolute main thing that makes my decisions is the options. I am not a fanboy of either Nvidia or ATI/AMD i have owned both without any sort of problems however as of late i lean more towards AMD Gpu's because of two reasons according to reports they run a bit cooler which is important to me also Eyefinity has my interest more than 3D.

I have for the most part narrowed it down to 2 models the HD 6850 and in specific the Asus Model due to a few things the ability to modify the voltage not saying that others can't, and the two reviews that i did find comparing 6850s vs 6850s and in both the Asus was on top also the fact that it uses 2x 6pin (not sure why but that makes me more comfortable) the other being the whole spectrum of 6870s the reason being is cause the percent of cost to performance is very near the 6850. The only thing i that i couldn't answer and the probably 50% of the reason i posted this is cause i see reviews and forums say "buy the 6850 because you can OC it 6870 levels" The part missing to that is simple the ability that the 6850 has to OC is obvious and very attractive but nothing saying that the 6870 is on par or less than a good OC as it relates to the 6850

I only shop at Newegg and i consider myself about a 4 as for as tech is concerned and have 4 builds under my belt and if you have any information that can help me with this i would greatly appreciate it. Not trying to pus anyone away but if you answer this post please give full answer not just a "go 6850" because this is counter productive. I plan to make a purchase in the next few days or even as early as today so the sooner the better!

560 Ti can run at maximum 2 screens i think, if you are planning to go with Surround (or Eyefinity) only using 2x gpus nvidia allows that, then you will be able to use 3 screens surround gaming, with exception of the 680 that already allow you to use 4 screens on a single card just like amd Eyefinity.

560 ti is a great card, i think you can get it under U$ 250:

i would recommend going with a 448 core version if you have the extra cash:

but like i have said if you are into multimonitor, best option would be something like this 7850:

but i...

you are asking what is a better bang for the buck with out giving any price comparisons.

to put it generally; since the 6870 is about 15% higher in performance, then a 6850 that is 85% less in price would be a better buy.

That is a very nice GPU without a doubt and i didn't want to say it but i am a huge fan of MSI for sure the problem the is it start to float out of my price range for one and the other part of that is the ratio of Price/Performance. As you stated in this comment it isn't under $190 it is $199 and that is before taxes too

This is very much so the kind of answer i am looking for and appreciate it very much!

One last question though and this is nit picky at best i have read in a couple of places that Evga is partial to Nvidia and XFX is partial to ATI/AMD meaning that the card made from Evga using ATI Chips aren't as good as its competitors and same being said about XFX using Nvida Chips?

Oh forgot i know that Asus has Voltage tweaking but can i use MSI after burner or Sappire's Trixxx on other cards from another manufactures like say using Afterburner on a His or Trixx on a XFX?

Well for your information, As far as I know Evga never manufacture AMD cards (or ATi in some cases) and XFX used to manufacture nVIDIA card, but now not at all. So I don't know what you're really asking.

But if you are getting ASUS for example, you should have software bundled to the graphics CD which should include voltage tweaking tool if the card supports voltage tweaks.

199 is the MSI one, i said it as very nice because it would worth go over 9$ for that cooling solution.

But to stay in that price range there are YES 6870 in it.

Choose your brand all 179 U$:

Yes you can overclock it and change votlages, but don't do anything you don't know what will be the causes, increasing voltage is required for high overclock but be aware that this will increase the gpu temps a lot and if the overclock is not stable with time the gpu will die. just make sure what you are doing before overclocking etc, just common sense, check in the GPU OVERCLOCK section if you are thinking in it.

Like i said earlier i don't plan to OC but having lots of options is probably only second to p/p. And to you point of not doing anything before i know what i am doing that almost goes without saying because i like most am very afraid of bricking the card

I am looking at a couple of places and the difference in price for the 560 Ti with 448 cores is about $75 more and not exactly in the budget, also if i went the 560 Ti route it would have to be with MSI only cause of the Heatsink
