PVR config questions

I recently finished my first build:
- Antec 902 V case
- CORSAIR 850HX modular PSU
- ASUS P8Z68–V PRO/GEN3 motherboard
- Intel Core i5 2500K (no OC yet)
- 2 X 4GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 1600 DDR3 SDRAM
- COOLER MASTER GeminII S524 HSF using Arctic 5 Thermal paste
- Samsung 830 128GB SSD for OS
- WD Caviar Black ITB SATAIII HDD for data storage
- LITE-ON optical drive
- WINDOWS 7 64 bit Home Premium
- (no graphics card yet)

The system is awesome. I am now starting to look at what I want to add for video and gaming.

I would like to be able to occasionally use the system as a PVR for my HDTV (Sony Bravida). That is record from the output of the DirecTV HD set top box to the computer HDD and play back on either the PC monitor or the HDTV.

What equipment do I need? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What would you like to spend for a graphics card?

Since I am new to PC gaming I am considering a low end to mid level graphics card with which to gain experience. I am looking at a EVGA GTX 550 Ti or EVGA GTX 560 ranging from $130 to $180.

One of my questions is for HDTV PVR purposes do I even need a TV tuner card since I want to record off of the ouput side of the set top box with a HDMI feed. Can this be done with software and the graphics card?

Oh, I see. Sorry about that. I misread your post. According to DirectTv.com, it looks like you need to connect to a wireless Wi-Fi network to get your recording off of the receiver. Does your model receiver have IF/Wireless capabilites?
